Indigenous Homelessness Initiatives


About

The Government of Canada introduced the Reaching Home community-based program, aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness across Canada. This initiative extends financial support to Indigenous communities throughout Canada. The Red Road Healing Society-Restoring Home Fires receives funding to invest in the community of Edmonton aimed at reducing Indigenous houselessness.


The the Edmonton Indigenous Community Entity (EICE), guided by its Indigenous Community Advisory Board (ICAB), is dedicated to restoring housing stability within our Indigenous communities - “Restoring Home Fires.”


Our Role

  • Reduction in Indigenous relatives being unhoused in Edmonton
  • Indigenous sovereignty in navigating innovative solutions for Indigenous housing
  • Central administrative body for the Indigenous Reaching Home program
  • Key responsibilities include funding management, administrative support, and data collection.

Funding Calls & Application Process

We launch Request for Proposals (RFPs) in alignment with local priorities, guided by our Indigenous Community Advisory Board (ICAB).

The Indigenous Community Advisory Board (ICAB) community members include those with lived experience, frontline housing workers, and experts in the homelessness sector. The ICAB guides funding decisions to ensure eligible projects reflect the voices of the Indigenous community and sets priorities for addressing Indigenous houselessness in the community of Edmonton.
